Program Overview
River Valley Community College offers a Business Management Certificate designed for students seeking a fast, focused credential that builds essential business skills. This 24-credit, eight-course program provides a strong foundation in core areas such as management, business law, accounting, and professional computing – skills that employers value across industries.  The certificate is ideal for career changers, professionals looking to advance, or students planning to continue toward an associate or bachelor’s degree. All courses apply directly to RVCC’s Business Management degree, creating a clear pathway for further education.  Graduates leave with practical knowledge and confidence to succeed in entry-level roles or to pursue additional academic opportunities. More than a short-term credential, this program is your first step toward long-term success in business.

Admission and Enrollment Information
This program is open enrollment, meaning students must meet the general college admission requirements; no additional program-specific criteria apply.  Students may begin the program in any academic term. Full-time and part-time study options are available.

Credits earned through early college or dual-enrollment programs may be applied toward program requirements. Students who have completed coursework at other accredited institutions should submit official transcripts to the Admissions Office for evaluation of transfer credit.

Goals of the Business Management program include the following:

Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the certificate, students will be able to:

  • Prepare, interpret, and analyze financial statements and accounting data to evaluate organizational performance and inform strategic planning.
  • Employ professional computing tools to manage data and support operational efficiency.

Course Sequencing

For electives, student has a choice of Computerized Accounting, Accounting III, Cost Accounting or Taxes. If taking Computerized Accounting, classes are 2 hours, lab is 4 hours and total 3 credits.
